Agnes Rockey

November 18, 1927 — August 9, 2017

Agnes Rockey (89) of Green Bay, returned home to her Heavenly Father on August 9, 2017. She was proud of her 100% Irish heritage and was born to Catherine Kane and Stephen McMahon on November 18, 1927. She grew up in Friendship, New York with her three sisters, Marie (Allen), Theresa (Allen) and Ellen (Dorsett). She spent her summers during the Depression on her Uncle Bill and Aunt Katie's farm.

When she graduated from high school she headed to Washington, DC where she worked for a colonel in the Marine Corps. She had the honor of laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider and asked a young sailor if he would be her escort. His name was Clarence Rockey and they were later married on February 26, 1949. They were married for 63 years until his passing in 2012.

Agnes dedicated most of her life raising her ten children: Mary (James) Angerer, Daniel (Dianna), Dennis (Tina), Edward (Connie), David (Linda), Jeanette (John) Orr, Susan (David) Torbenson, Sally (Lance) Hanson, Gail, and Nancy (Charles) Dye. Agnes enjoyed her many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren - especially all the babies!

Agnes loved playing golf, bowling, and tennis with her husband and family. She enjoyed music and every day after her husband returned from work, they would dance around in the living room (with their dog, Chico barking!). She also enjoyed attending Packers games and was especially happy she took a train to the very first Super Bowl in California (they won!). Agnes was a wonderful bridge player and would even find a way to win after her husband's "crazy" bids. The couple moved from Appleton, Wisconsin to Huntsville, Alabama in 1979 and Agnes enjoyed volunteering for Catholic Charities. In 1990, she accompanied her husband on a one-year adventure to the island of Kwajalein in the South Pacific. During retirement she enjoyed trips to Florida during the winter months and summers in Wisconsin. She also loved playing solitaire on her bed while she watched her favorite soap opera she called "Victor" (Young and the Restless).

In her final years, Agnes spent time at Curative Connections (Reflections) where she was greeted each morning with, "St. Agnes!" Suffering for years from Alzheimer's disease, she was indeed a saint who brought so much joy to so many. She loved her time at Reflections and her family will always be grateful to the staff for the meaningful, fun, and compassionate time she spent there.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Church (3009 Bay Settlement Road) in Green Bay on November 18, 2017 at 11:00 am. Following the service, a luncheon for family and friends will be served at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (651 Pinehurst Street) in Green Bay. We will celebrate her life and her 90th birthday together!
