Alice H. Johnson, 96, Marinette, passed away on June 28, 2019, at Rennes West in Peshtigo. She was born on September 22, 1922, in Switzerland to the late Alois and Elisa Betschart. At the age of one, she immigrated with her family to the U.S. On June 20, 1961, Alice became a U.S. citizen, one of the proudest moments of her life.
Alice graduated from Woodland High School, Woodland, CA. On March 23, 1946, she married Conroy Johnson, S/Sgt in the U.S. Army. Residing in Racine, she was employed at Zayre’s and K-Mart before moving to the Marinette area in 2000, where she was employed at Walmart for 12 years.
Alice was a quiet, independent person. She enjoyed watching sports—the Cubs, Bears and Golden State Warriors were her favorites. But wrestling was her passion for over 60 years, creating an extensive collection of tapes and magazines. A favorite routine was feeding birds, squirrels and chipmunks in her backyard along with her cat. But most of all, she loved visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Alice is survived by her son, Gary (Jane) Johnson, Porterfield; two grandchildren, Randy (Betsey) Johnson, Green Bay, Justina (Scott) Rademann, St. Louis; and two great-grandchildren, Eva and Morgan, Green Bay.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years; one son, John; her parents; brother, Walt Betschart; and sister, Elsa (Albin) Fassler, Elk Grove, CA.
Honoring her wishes, a private celebration of life will be held by family.
