Ann Marie Smetana

Ann Marie (Nooyen) Smetana age 63 passed away suddenly on January 11, 2025. She was born January 16, 1961 to Ervin and Janice (Beth) Nooyen in Green Bay. At a young age her family moved to Denmark, WI where she grew up. She graduated from Denmark High School and then St. Norbert College. Ann then moved to Green Bay to pursue her career in teaching. She started her career teaching at Annunciation Catholic School. She married her husband, Barry Smetana on October 5, 1996 at Annuciation Catholic Church. She then moved to Holy Family Catholic School. She was currently teaching first grade at Baird Elementary School for the Green Bay Area School District. Teaching was her passion. She dearly loved all her past and present students as well as all her teacher/staff friends. She was very passionate about her career but when she was not doing that, she spent her time with her family and pets. She and Barry loved going on little road trips such as to Door county to buy candles. She adored her husband and spent as much of her free time with him as possible. 

She is survived by her beloved husband Barry; her two daughters, Destiny of Clintonville and Kaitlin (special friend Paris) of Green Bay; two sisters, Terrie (Pat) Borzick of Green Bay, Mary (Roland) Adams of Denmark; brother Dan (Julie) Nooyen of Denmark; mother-in-law Wendy Smetana of Green Bay; brother-in-law Scott (Tammy) Smetana of Suamico; nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, paternal and maternal grandparents, her brother Bill and her father-in-law Leonard Smetana.

Hopefully with this devastating and sad loss for her family, hope and life will come to other families because of her selfless decision to be an organ donor.

A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Holy Cross Church, 3009 Bay Settlement Rd, Green Bay, WI. Visitation will be from 9am until the time of service.
