Barbara Jeanne McClurg

Barbara Jeanne McClurg died peacefully in the presence of her children on July 3, 2021 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She was born to Shirley and F. Laird Tompkins on September 23, 1927 on Staten Island, New York. Barbara graduated from Connecticut College in 1948 with a degree in philosophy, though her friends remember her as “changing her major with the weather.” Barbara married John McClurg in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1961. They had four children together and were married until 1979. Barbara was proud of her children and gave them opportunities to pursue who they were meant to be. After her youngest child started school, Barbara completed a Master’s in education at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. In addition to raising her children, Barbara was a full time Special Education teacher in the Green Bay Public School System, teaching 1st – 6th graders who had exceptional needs.
