Bernice R. Kelnhofer, 95, died Monday, March 22nd, 2021 at Emerald Bay Retirement Community and Memory Care. Her final care was managed by Aurora Health at Home Hospice.

She was born February 16, 1926 in Luxemburg, Wisconsin to the late Stanley and Adolphine Hendricks. She married the late Harold J. Kelnhofer April 21st, 1945. They moved to Bay Settlement in 1946 where they farmed for 33 years. Bernice was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Bernice is survived by her five children, Arnie and Mary Lou Kelnhofer, Green Bay; Paul and Diane Kelnhofer, Sister Bay; Mike and Kathy Kelnhofer, Green Bay; Mary Oliverio and partner John Brophy, Fort Atkinson; and Jeanette and Craig Deatherage, Coral Springs, FL.

She had eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, Tracy and Craig Reige (Jack); Tricia and Paul Novitsky (Connor and Hailey); Jeremy and Alissa Kelnhofer (Dempsey, Maisie, and Luisa); Jenna and Russ Anderson (Parker and Aubrey); Cullen and Denise Brewster (Lumi and Sutton), Jessica Oliverio; Sarah and Joel Rauzin (Isaac); and Melody Deatherage; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Harold J. Kelnhofer; brothers, Walter and Agatha Hendricks, Harvey and Ruby Hendricks, Richard and Rosabelle Hendricks, Elmer and Anna Hendricks; sisters, Alice and Pete Estel, Viola and Charles Adams, and Mildred and Alvin Everard; Harold’s half brother, Clayton and Doris Freix; and half sisters, Pearl and Willard Hendricks, Beatrice and Clarence Rogers, and Viola and Robert Alsteen.

After Harold passed away, Bernice lived many years at Age Well Centre for Life Enrichment and moved to Emerald Bay Retirement Community and Memory Care in her last few weeks of life. Bernice was dedicated to prayer and said a Rosary every day for each of her five children. She loved Polka dancing, fish fries, bird watching, gardening, and playing her keyboard. Bernice was especially fond of picking hickory nuts, and turned that passion into a small side business for herself and her late husband, Harold. They spent many hours shelling nuts together in their retirement.

Entombment will occur at the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum, Bay Settlement. There will be no visitation due to COVID restrictions. There will be a virtual Mass Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 1:00pm Central Standard Time.
