Dale Sharkey, 76, Peshtigo, passed away Friday, March 14, 2025 at Aurora Hospital. Dale was born in Escanaba, MI on 10/31/48. He was the son of Ron and Mary (Poupore) Sharkey of Powers, MI. He graduated from Powers High School in 1966. He also attended Northern Michigan University and graduated in 1970. Dale married Nancy (Viau) on May 24, 1969. Dale is survived by his wife Nancy, son Les Sharkey, and daughter Lisa (Scott) Van Hefty. Also survived by grandchildren Lauren (Marcus) Behnke, Marcus (Mandy) Sharkey, Abby Van Hefty and Brayden Van Hefty. He is also survived by Jeffrey Bruso and Casey Bruso. He also had four great grandchildren, Ariella, Azalea, Sawyer, and Addison Behnke. Dale is also survived by a sister, Karen Rackow (Sturgeon Bay, WI). He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Don Sharkey. A celebration of life will be held at the Peshtigo Pub on June 21, 2025. Dale did his student teaching in Peshtigo in 1969, under Michael Strebel. It was always his wish to come back to Peshtigo schools to teach. In the fall of 1991 his wish was granted as he was hired to teach special education and to coach wrestling. In 1998 he was diagnosed with Guillaci Barre's syndrome and was forced to retire. Being that he loved fly fishing so much he learned how to tie his own flies and also taught so many others to tie their own flies. He spent so much time on the Cedar River in his hometown along with the river he fell in love with, the Peshtigo River. He was also the greatest horticulturist our family and friends know. Not only was he great at growing the gardens he was heavily involved in the garden walks in the area. He always had containers and a shovel at the ready to give someone their start in growing flower gardens. He loved taking the grandkids in the RV to Left Foot Lake in Crivitz overnight. As many of you know he loved to decorate for Hallowen and Christmas. Being that his birthday was on Halloween he would decorate a little more for that holiday, putting together a haunted garage and making sure the kids had plenty of candy. Christmas was very special to him as well. He absolutely loved how the cars would stop by after dark to see what he put up. As many of you may know, Dale and I enjoyed dancing since our beginning. It carried on through the years, but it really got restarted after the kids were out of the house. They truly loved going to the Island Casino, seeing family and old friends. They also enjoyed all of the dancing venues in the area. Those of you that got to see them dance together know how much they loved each other (Les Sharkey). They were also known as "THE DANCERS". Dale enjoyed making hats and costumes for various holidays and birthdays. He also enjoyed being a bingo caller at the Outback. Dale was a member of the Sons of the American Legion 146 Menominee, Michigan.

Thank you to all of the Emt personnel, along with the entire staff in Marinette and Green Bay.

We would also like to thank Father Bill from the Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
