Darleen Smith, a kind and generous person, passed away late Friday evening, March 25, 2016. Darleen “Miss Smith” was the Green Bay West librarian for many years after graduating from UW-Eau Claire and receiving her Masters from UW-Madison. She continued her education throughout her career at many other universities. Born October 24, 1935 in western Wisconsin to Florence and Delton, she never forgot where she came from and returned home frequently. Darleen had many friends. She was a bowler, a golfer and a world traveler. Darleen was a proud Delta Kappa Gamma member and provided many years of service to the Green Bay Education Association. Her generosity was well known, and a Smith family Christmas raised it to another level. Darleen was modest in her own way. Once asked why she made the decisions (they were good decisions) she made in life her reply was "I just did it." You certainly did Darleen; you certainly did.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Kathryn “Kay”; two of her favorite talking points nephews, Nathan (wife, Lisa) and Jeffrey (Pam); and two blessed grandnieces, Lindsey (fiancée, Herb) and Rachel; and one blessed grandnephew, Brett; and many cousins and a special group of friends.
Darleen was preceded in death by her younger brother Larry, with whom she had a special bond.
A church service celebrating Darleen's life will take place Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Bethel Lutheran Church, 1350 Bond St (Bond and Platten), close to where Darleen lived for many years.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established or donate to the charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank Pastor Amy, Darleen's many visitors and the staffs of Woodside Assisted Living, Grancare, Alpha Senior Concepts, and Unity Hospice for their care, compassion and listening skills.
