Dave was born in Reading, Pennsylvania on October 24,1935, to Ralph and Goldie Fizz. He passed away on April 17, 2025 because the Lord Jesus Christ determined, in His absolute authority, that it was time for him to go home. Dave became a Christian (born again) in March 1962 gratefully receiving the free gift of eternal life and forgiveness of sin due solely to the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus. His Lord and Savior paid it all (a debt we could not pay). THANK YOU, LORD!
Dave’s family moved to New Holland, Pennsylvania in 1939 and lived there during his formative years. He graduated from New Holland High School in 1953. He subsequently graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and then accepted a job offer at Douglas Aircraft Company located in Santa Monica, California.
Soon after accepting work in California, and after many letters written back home to a special female friend, Dave and Barbara Spotts agreed on marriage. They were married in October 1958 and settled in Santa Monica, California. When Douglas Aircraft relocated to Irvine, California, Dave took an engineering job with Rocketdyne, a Division of North American in Canoga Park, California. After working for eight years at Rocketdyne, the Lord called Dave to be a high school Math and Physics teacher there in Canoga Park at Faith Baptist Church and School. After 32 years of faithful service there, he retired in 2003 and moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin with his wife (his best friend). Upon arriving in Wisconsin, the high school located at their church unretired him to serve 8 more years of teaching Math and Physics. God is so good!!
The marriage of David and Barbara produced three wonderful daughters, Cynthia Ann Brown, Jennifer Lynn Weiss, and Julia Elaine Bender. The surviving grandchildren are Jeffery Brown, Michelle Shortall, Evan Weiss, Emily Weiss, Ethan Weiss, Ashley Miller, Micah Bender and Katie Steuerwald. The six great grandchildren are Caroline Miller, Kieran Shortall, Davin Shortall, Judah Miller, Audrey Miller and David Miller.
My final concluding comments (written by Dave in January 2018 about my life and decease are these:
The Lord has given me a full and, I believe, productive life and incredibly good health. The Lord gave me the opportunity to minister to young people for 40 plus years, for which I am eternally grateful. I only hope and pray that I was effective in making a difference in so many lives. I am well aware that the Lord deserves all the credit for any thing that was accomplished, for the Scripture is plain in quoting the Lord in saying, “…without me, you can do nothing.” John 15:5 This is true simply because He is the vine, and we are the branches. The Lord was especially gracious in giving me a wonderful Christian wife and helpmeet and a wonderful loving family. Words cannot express my gratitude for my wife and family knowing the condition of the world in which we live. My final comment is “Praise the Lord! He is so good and His mercy endures forever!
100% His
