David Frank Wagner, 75, died peacefully in his home March 17, 2016.
Dave was born January 15, 1941 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He graduated from Oshkosh High School, attended the Wisconsin State College-Oshkosh, and went on to write for the Appleton Post Crescent as the arts editor where he reviewed music, art, theater, and movies, and wrote many other columns. Dave was told by Rolling Stone magazine that he was one of the nation’s first syndicated critics of rock music. From the mid 1970s through 1980, Dave worked for the Green Bay News Chronicle where he was the sports editor. After leaving the newspaper business, Dave worked for the City of Green Bay as a bridgetender for over 25 years. Dave also worked the time clock for the Green Bay Notre Dame Academy girls basketball program for 35 years and was an active part of the program until his death.
Dave could always be counted on for a good story and a laugh. Family was very important to Dave and he particularly cherished visits with his grandchildren and conversations with his son. He also loved music, especially classical, jazz, and classic rock. Other interests include aviation, photography, classic cars, video games, and cooking. He was an avid learner with eclectic tastes. Dave could always be counted on to be up to date with everything Packers, Brewers, Red Wings, and UWGB Phoenix women’s basketball where he was a long time season ticket holder.
He is survived by his son, Derrick (Lynn Ann) Wagner of Edmond, Oklahoma, his two grandchildren Rosalina and Hutton Wagner, his sister Patricia (Dwight “Rod”) Fisk, his niece, four nephews, a grandnephew, and a grandniece. He was preceded in death by his father Frank Wagner, his mother Viola (Smith) Wagner, his brother James Wagner, and his niece Megan Wagner.
