Donald Paul (Donnie) Garsow, passed away at home on October 16, 2024, three days before his 67th birthday, following years of declining health.Donnie was the oldest of eight children born to Donald and Nancy (Robinson) Garsow, October 19, 1957, in De Pere, Wisconsin. He was a 1975 graduate of West De Pere High School, where he played baritone and trombone in the school band and jazz band. Donnie loved listening to music, especially classical, jazz, and blues, and enjoyed sharing his appreciation of it with others. Sometimes it was a miss (some of his younger siblings didn’t fully appreciate listening to classical music played through his headphones at top volume), but sometimes it was a hit (the Beatles album he gave his youngest sister when she was 7 is still one of her prized possessions). Donnie loved to write. He typed volumes full of poetry on an old electric typewriter (incredibly fast, and using only two fingers), and he was a talented artist. His caricatures were especially memorable, and he would often leave little drawings with funny notes where he knew you would find them. On April 17, 1988, Donnie became a father when his only child, Nathan Frederick was born. Nathan was the joy and light of Donnie’s life. He especially loved attending events at Syble Hopp, where Nathan went to school; bringing Nathan to watch trains; and his trip of a lifetime when they took a long distance train trip together. Many thanks to Nathan’s caregivers who brought Nathan to visit Donnie regularly after he was no longer physically able to drive.Donnie was the true definition of an introvert, but he held those he loved very close to him (even recently traveling over a mile by wheelchair to a wedding shower for his nephew and future niece, after his transportation fell through at the last minute). He will be greatly missed and is survived by his son Nathan Garsow, Green Bay; his siblings: Teresa (Randall) Andrews, Green Bay; Michael (Joan) Garsow, Green Bay; Geralyn (John) Kersten, De Pere; Sharon Garsow, Milwaukee; Mary (Michael) Turecke, Green Bay; Jennifer (Anthony) Krause, Green Bay; and Rebecca (Beau) Bristol, De Pere; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and the mother of his son, Leanne De Bauche. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Nancy Garsow. The family would like to thank the Lakeland Care staff for their care of our brother in his last years. No funeral services will be publicly held. We hope when you turn up the volume on your favorite song, it makes you think of Donnie and smile.
