In the early hours of January 8, 2016, Donald Aloys “Don” Volk passed away peacefully after a five-year, courageous battle with cancers. He was surrounded by his loving family at his residence in Neenah, Wisconsin. He was 89 years old.
Don was born on October 30, 1926 in Harvey, North Dakota to Aloys Volk and Esther Keller Volk, where he lived on a farm. At the age of seven years old, Don moved to Milwaukee, WI with his parents, but continued to spend summers on the farm in North Dakota, working and learning about nature. His experiences on the farm those summers nestled deeply into his heart and helped shape the man he would soon become. He always attributed his tireless work ethic, deep respect for Mother Nature and his active adventurous outdoor lifestyle to those summers on the farm.
Don graduated from Rufus King High School in Milwaukee in 1945. After high school, he worked several jobs in and out of the printing industry, culminating in his position as a Journeyman Pressman.
