Edward (Thomas) Upstone, 74, passed away from this earthly life to his savior - Jesus Christ on Wednesday - February 28, 2024. There has been some confusion regarding his “name”. While some people knew him as “Tom”, so many others knew him as “Ed”. Here is the answer to the puzzle! He used his given name “Ed” for his business customers. While family and friends knew him as “Tom”.
Tom was born October 13, 1949 in Tuscola, Illinois to Karl and Margaretha (Meyer) Upstone. Tom graduated from Walther Lutheran H.S (IL) in 1968. As a talented athlete, he played both football and baseball. But it was his “God given gift” in baseball that made him a standout. With his height, arm strength, and a mean fastball and curveball, he was placed on varsity his freshman year! During his senior year, Tom was recruited to play AAA baseball for the Cincinnati Reds as a pitcher. In addition he was invited to play “Winter Ball” and pitched to the great Johnny Bench.
During his employment years, he was mostly employed as a on the road salesman for truck and car parts. Always being inclusive, he regarded many of his customers as friends.
Tom loved all things sports and was a “die hard” Packer fan! He was known to be funny, engaging and really silly at times. A joy for Tom and his wife Nancy was to teach Sunday school at their church. As they got older, they volunteered at the S.S registration center. He loved the interacting with the families.
Tom is survived by his wife Nancy, his children Jennifer Upstone-Forgette and special friend J-Jay Delariman, Matthew and Angel Upstone, granddaughters Olivia Upstone and husband De’Jon Crockran, Isabella Upstone, Allison, Alexis and Morgan Forgette, and two great-grandsons: Tru Forgette and Teddy Crockran, his sister Susan Hancock, Dave & Terri Hancock, Mike & Stephanie Hancock, Tim & Karen Hancock, sister and brother in law Janet & Rob Greenwade, Jacob Greenwade, Ty & Tori Greenwade and children, Leanne & Brian Sulcer and children. Tom’s family would like to thank the “angels” who took care of him at Rennes Nursing. You know who you are! The Upstone family is very grateful Tom’s care and especially your friendship.
