We surrender to you Heavenly Father, our beloved mother in order that you may hold her in your loving embrace and protect her for all eternity. Elaine R. (Umnus) Fogarty passed away after a progressive battle with Alzheimer’s on Thursday morning, November 20, 2014. She was a caring daughter, an adoring wife, and a devoted mother.
Elaine was born in Wausau, WI, on August 23, 1924, to Edwin and Gertrude (Teske) Umnus. She was raised in Wausau and spent summers in Madison. After high school, Elaine worked in a bank in Chicago. After a short career in banking, she returned home to Wausau, where she married her husband, John James Fogarty, in 1947. She later worked at West High School as a secretary and IMC Technician until she retired in 1990. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, John, on October 28, 1962, a daughter Mary Beth, her sister Marion Rodgers, her mother and father, and a special Aunt, Harriet O’Keefe.
Although widowed at an early age, Elaine filled her life with leadership roles in her children’s activities. She contributed by volunteering on many community organizations like the Junior Bowling League, Norwood Elementary PTA, and Paul’s Pantry. She was an active member at St. Joseph’s Church, and a member of the Catholic Women Society. She also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, sewing, and viewing her children’s school sports and activities.
Elaine is survived by her six children, Thomas (Judy) Fogarty, Howard; Anne Fogarty, Kenwood, CA; Judith VanDer Perren, Hobart; Daniel (Monica) Fogarty, Suamico; Victoria Fogarty (Keith Basar) Iola, WI; Mark (Christina) Fogarty, Appleton, WI, her twelve grandchildren, Kelly (Nick) Wiley; Chad (Jennifer) Fogarty, Wade Barnhart; Drew, Nell, and Clark VanDer Perren; Wesley and Taylor Clark; MacKenna Jones; Emma, John and Caitlin Fogarty and two great grandchildren, Nicholas Clark and Tyler Wiley; along with many cherished nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to St. Joseph Parish-1224 12th Ave. Green Bay, WI 54304, (920) 496-2160, for visitation at 4:00pm and service to follow at 5:00pm on Tuesday, November 25, 2014. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Parish or Paul’s Pantry, 1520 Leo Frigo Way, Green Bay, WI 54302.
Our family would like to extend its gratitude to the wonderful staff at Cardinal Ridge Residential Care for helping us navigate through the difficulty of Alzheimer’s. We would like to also thank the Unity Hospice nurses and social workers for all of their support.
