F. WARREN HALSTEAD, age 87, of Jacksonport, WI peacefully passed away at Ministry Door County Medical Center on Saturday, April 2, 2016 with his loving wife and family by his side.
F. Warren Halstead was born on December 9, 1928 in Sturgeon Bay to Frank and Lottie (Logerquist) Halstead, the youngest of three children. Warren graduated from Sevastopol School in 1947. He was united in marriage to Joyce Ann Birnschein on April 19, 1952 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Valmy and enjoyed nearly 64 years of marriage.
Warren was a remarkable hard working man. He first farmed with his father (he milked his first cow when he was four years old) including both dairy cattle and growing potatoes, and from 1977 to 1992 he and his son Randy ran the family farm. Even after officially retiring in 1992, he rarely missed a day on the farm. You can take the man away from the farm, but you can’t take the farmer out of the man.
Warren was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sturgeon Bay where he was head usher for many years, and former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Valmy. Warren was a member of the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service (ASCS) and the Land Conservation Committee (LCC) for six years. He was also the treasurer of the Sevastopol FFA Alumni Association for 22 years, in addition to being a life member of the State and National FFA Alumni Association. Warren received the Honorary State FFA Degree and the Honorary Chapter Farmer Degree. The family farm hosted the annual Sevastopol FFA Alumni Dairy Breakfast in 1992. Warren and Joyce hosted 11 Work Experience Abroad students and traveled to Europe to visit several of them and continue to stay in touch with them.
Warren will be dearly missed by his wife Joyce and their three children Randy Halstead of Jacksonport, Kerry (Rick) Neuville of Sturgeon Bay, Cindy (Don) Viste of Sturgeon Bay; grandchildren Lacey (Nathan) Tomczuk of Bayside, Brock (Teresa) Halstead of Albia, IA, Shanna (Mike) Sobieck of Oneida, Callie (special friend Mark) of Ridgeway, Nicole (Ryan) Komers of Milwaukee and Natasha (Adam) Baker of Waunakee, step grandchildren Stephanie (Rachel) Selvick of Utica, NY & Carl (Samantha) Selvick of Madison ; and great-grandchildren Isaac, Jacob, Anna, Luke, Genevieve, Cecelia, Addison, Avery, Alexander, Noah, Claire, Ry, Violet and Luciana who all knew him as “Grandpa Great”.
