Monfort, Freeman Richard (Bud), 85, died at home February 4 after a 15 month illness of an aggressive lung cancer.
He was born in Milwaukee on July 17, 1931 to Richard and Margret (Buege) Monfort . In 1945 the family moved to Kelly Lake. At age 17, he enlisted in the Navy and served four years during the Korean War Era. Following an honorable discharge, he was employed for 3 ½ years at Hoberg Paper Mill in Green Bay. He then served an apprenticeship for Sheet Metal Mechanic. Over the years he was employed by several Green Bay and Fox Valley UNION Sheet Metal contractors. He was a proud UNION member of Local #18 (formerly #33) for over 60 years. He retired in 1994 from Tweet/Garot Mechanical Contractors in Green Bay.
He and Barbara Siebert were united in marriage November 29, 1952 and recently celebrated 64 years together. They had four children and resided in the Green Bay/Howard area for many years. After retirement, he and Barbara moved “up north” to Half Moon Lake. They just recently moved to be nearer to family.
Bud was an avid deer hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed playing golf as a member of the Parkway Retired Men’s Golf League. He was a craftsman and woodworker. He was also an avid reader and always had a book at his side. In 2015 he was privileged to participate in an Old Glory Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. accompanied by his son-in-law, Charles Petersen. Bud loved life and was always willing to help others.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; one son, Jeffrey (Yoo-kyeong); three daughters, Connie (James) Baumgart, Vicki (Charles) Petersen, Kristi Monfort –Moore; ten grandchildren, Matthew (Carlie) Petersen, Amanda Verrier, Andrea (Chad) Swanson, Andrew Gaustad, Anthony Petersen, John, Jakob and Audrey Moore, Max and Allison Monfort; two step- grandchildren, Jody (Derek) Lund and Jeffrey Baumgart; six great-grandchildren, Natalie Collar, Zoe and Dylan Houle, Anna and Cole Petersen, Logan Verrier; one step- great grandchild, Adrian Swanson.
He is further survived by one sister, Nancy Campbell; four brothers, Carl (Frances), Ralph, Patrick (Joyce) and Michael; four sisters-in-law, Bonnie Monfort, Joyce Brown, Ginny Siebert, Barb Siebert; many nieces, nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Henry, Terry and James; grandson-in-law, Jason Verrier; two nieces and one nephew; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
In honoring his directives, he has chosen cremation and no service. His cremains will be inurned in Wanderers’ Rest Cemetery in Gillett at a later date.
