Gary "G" John Calaway 65, of Green Bay passed away in his home, after a short battle with cancer, surrounded by family, love, memories, and stories on March 15th, 2025. Gary’s life is a testament to his quote, “there’s always something to live for”. Gary never let his setbacks dictate his future and strived to “prove them all wrong” in everything he did.
To know Gary was to love him, and he had a way of leaving the most unique imprint on your soul. He was “that guy” to so many, whether he was waving as you passed him in his chair with his faithful companion Razen on his lap as he ventured the city, ended up behind him the drive thru on his chair that his lights made legal by the way, when he was taking your garbage and recycling to the curb without you noticing, or when he stopped you for a “quick” 45 minute chat.
Gary did not care about the parts that most people feel are the ugly parts of themselves, he only cared about making whoever he met feel noticed, appreciated, and making it known they had a friend in him. He was the man you called for a good laugh, to vent about a hard day, or if you needed help, even if it was lifting a refrigerator with his chair. He always showed up whether you wanted him to or not because he refused to let anyone feel alone in life.
Anyone who has had the pleasure of knowing Gary will tell you he enjoyed exploring the city with Razen, meeting new people, and enjoyed appreciating the outdoors, especially being in the sun. No matter what neighborhood he resided in, he will always be remembered for the voice you could hear blocks way, his not so short chats, his laughter, his ability to see the good in any situation, his resourcefulness, and his ability to “terrorize” the neighborhood in the best way.
He is survived by his mother, Dolores; daughter Elizabeth siblings and their spouses, Lin and Jorge Del Alamo, Kathy and Tim Vanden Heuvel, Chris Calaway and his girlfriend, Kat DelRio (and her sons, Noah and Gabriel); niece Jackie (her fiancé, Jesse and great nephew Austin); as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Calaway, brother Timothy Calaway & niece Angela Del Alamo and his faithful companions Razen and Daisy.
Gary did not wish to have a memorial service so in lieu of a service, the family asks that you honor Gary’s memory by always looking for something to live for, seeing the small sliver of good in the bad situations, stopping to appreciate the beauty of nature, and doing something kind for somebody else whether it be a simple smile, or kind gesture. Honor Gary in all the ways he lived his life day to day. In Gary’s memory, prove them all wrong, live loud, fast, free and proud.
The family would appreciate hearing all of your stories and memories of Gary that will help to keep his legacy alive so please feel free to openly share those whenever able. He will be truly missed and is loved by more people than he even realized.
