James Albert Briley

August 13, 1972 — February 9, 2017

James Albert Briley passed away on his own terms at his residence in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin on Thursday February 9th, 2017 at the age of 44.

James is predeceased by his father, Verl E. Mattly and mother, Deloris D. Mattly.

James is survived by his loving wife of only two years, Meena Kanwar Briley. James and Meena were married in Menominee, Michigan on May 15th, 2015 in the weeks following his terminal cancer diagnosis. Infamous for his dogged nature, James surpassed his prognosis by almost twenty months.

James is remembered most lovingly by his sons, Micheal Anthony Briley (24 years), and Neal James Briley (18 months). Beyond their love, James simply had no want.

James was born in Iowa City, Iowa on August 13, 1972. The unexpected passing of his father at age 14 prompted James to assume his own role in headstone and memorial setting in cemeteries throughout Iowa. The latter part of his youth was hallmarked by his entry into the Armed Forces where he served in the Persian Gulf War and Operation Desert Storm. James’ vocational pursuits included Licensed Contractor, PC Repair Technician, Auto Mechanic, and as of 2012, Ordained Minister. James earned his GED in June 2014, and was accepted into the Computer Support Specialist – IT Program at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) in Green Bay, Wisconsin in September 2014.

A Service Of Remembrance will be held at Lena Lanes located at 201 W. Harley Street, Lena, WI 54139 on Sunday, February 26th, 2017 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. The mood will be light and copious amounts of laughter are expected. The evening celebration will end with a fireworks display.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to James’ esteemed fellow dog-lover, Nikki Coopman, Owner of K-9 Creations Country Resort to help fund the continuance of dedicated efforts in placing abandoned, abused, or stray dogs with the right humans in the area.
