James Dovekas

August 10, 1954 — March 26, 2025

James Dean Dovekas, 70, of Green Bay, WI, passed away on March 26, 2025. Jim was diagnosed with metastatic pancreatic cancer in early March. He passed peacefully in his home with sister, Joanie, and her life partner, Lynn, by his side.

Jim was born in Chicago, IL, on August 10, 1954. He attended school in Lake Zurich, IL. He completed a bachelor’s degree at U of Illinois - Chicago and Master’s degrees at NYU and Dartmouth.

Jim served in the Army as a military police (3 years active, 3 years reserve). He worked as security at Harper College (Palatine, IL) and Continental Towers (Arlington Hts, IL). He enjoyed collecting coins, investing in stocks, listening to oldies music and playing video poker. He had a brilliant mind and loved discussing religion, history and psychology. His never ending sense of humor and wit entertained friends and family.

Jim is survived by his loving sister and her lifelong partner, Lynn; his aunts Helen Passias and Nickie Horton (Lou); his cousins Demetria Zyrkowski (Tim), Christine Meyer, Jennie Passias and GeorgePassias (Crystal); Sharon and Paul Neubauer; numerous extended family; and family dogs, Dolly and Roxy.

Jim is preceded in death by parents, Dean and Corinne Dovekas; grandparents, James and Jane Dovekas, Francis and Robert Repke, and George Sloan; uncles and aunt Nicholas Dovekas, Bill Passias; Gloria and Chuck Miller.

The family would like to thank Aurora Hospice for assisting Jim and his family through his final days and to Nicole Kurth for her support of Joanie and Lynn during the final weeks.

Those who knew Jim understood his strong need for solitude and privacy. His wishes will be respected by not holding a funeral service. A small celebration of life will be offered for family this summer.
