It is with great sadness that the family of James P. Hicks announces his passing after surgery on Saturday, May 2, 2020. He was 62.
Jim will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Becki Bartels, her husband Josh and children, Tucker, Detyn and Seraya.
He is survived by his father, James P. Hicks, and his wife, June Hicks, and siblings, Gary, Robert and Susan.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Jacqueline Hicks.
Jim was born in Flint, Michigan, and grew up in nearby Davison, where he graduated from Davison High School.
Jim was retired from the Fincantieri Marinette Marine where he was employed as a welder. He was awarded the honor of Master Shipwright for the USCGC Mackinaw. He was proud to have worked on the Littoral Combat ships for the U.S. Navy.
Jim had a passion for restoring classic cars. In addition to collecting guitars, he was also an avid music lover who taught himself to play the guitar.
A celebration of Jim’s life is planned for this summer. Donations may be made in his memory to the American Diabetes Association. Online condolences may be expressed at
