Jane Albertine Doro passed from this life on Friday, 8/19/16 due to complications from back surgery. She was born 11/1/40 to Agnes Duerr Doro and John Michael Doro in Poy Sippi, WI. Jane called her dad her “mentor, teacher and great friend.”
Born a Catholic, Jane attended St. Willebrord’s grade school, St. Joseph’s Academy and St. Agnes in FDL (now Marian University). She graduated in 1961. She became a nurse and graduated from UMD (1999) having studied anthropology and communications with a minor in Women’s Studies. Later in life, she taught English as a second language and became great friends with her students. She visited Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Belize, Granada and others as well as many places in the United States.
Jane was a student of life. She loved to travel, have adventures, read and write. She admitted to being a “job-hopper” as she married Ted Rietveld and bore 5 children, Carrie, Chris, Chuck, Andy and Matt. She raised horses as she moved around the country due to her husband’s job.
Jane divorced after 32 years of marriage and went on to have an active social and dating life. She loved to argue and debate politics and religion. She was an amazingly well read individual and was known for her wit and sharp thinking. She enjoyed gardening, Tai Chi, and ballroom dancing.
Jane is survived by her sister Petrice, brother-in-law Joe and her brother, John who supported and loved her through her illness and were with her when she passed. She will also be missed by her loving nephews Dan, Luke and Joseph and her niece Jen. She leaves behind many friends, her five children and many grandchildren.
A memorial service for Jane will be held Friday, 8/26/16 at 5:30 pm at the Green Bay Area Unitarian Universalist Church, 1641 Commanche Ave. in Green Bay.
The family invites all who knew Jane to come to the service and celebrate her life.
