Jed Robert Marohl, born January 27, 1950, in Shawano, WI, passed away on August 8, 2024, in Green Bay, WI, at age 74.
Jed was born as the youngest of triplets to his father, Awald, and mother, Mavis. He spent his youth working the family farm near Underhill, WI, with his brothers and sisters and excelling in track and field (especially the pole vault), wrestling, football, and academics. He graduated from Bonduel High School and went on to earn a math degree from UW-Oshkosh. Jed worked all his life in IT, managing teams of troubleshooters for several tech companies before realizing his goal of retiring at the age of 59.
Jed lived life fully and cherished all kinds of adventures with family and friends. His retirement years were spent doing the things he loved: golfing, bowling, skiing, playing tennis and pickleball, exploring National Parks and other natural or historical destinations, taking day trips to Door County, attending theater and musical events, watching movies and the History channel, keeping his lawn in tip top shape, and cheering on the Packers and Badgers. He especially loved the peacefulness of fishing from his kayak, putzing in the garage, vacuuming, and drinking a gin and tonic or brandy old fashioned (sweet, with olives) on the patio. Perhaps nothing could top a cup of coffee (black) and a dessert of almost any variety (but especially pumpkin pie, chocolate chip cookies, or homemade torte). If you needed a good pun or solid Dad joke, or an innovative fix for a broken household object, he was your man.
Jed is survived by his wife of almost 35 years, Lori Rudeen-Marohl; his son Benjamin (Kimberly) Marohl and grandchildren Claire and Greyson; his daughter Taylor Marohl (Thaddeus); his sisters Boni (Jay) Vandervelden, Rhonda Blom, and Carol (Dennis) Davey; his brothers Jack Marohl and Jody (Esther) Marohl; his sister-in-law Kimberly (Joel) Sharp; his brother-in-laws Thomas (Annette) Rudeen and John (Renae) Rudeen; many special nieces and nephews; and many cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, brother-in-law Ron Blom, and the family dog, Bandit.
Since Jed’s diagnosis with glioblastoma last year, we have received an outpouring of support from family, friends, healthcare workers, and strangers who offered help out of the goodness of their hearts. We are incredibly grateful and deeply touched by all of the thoughtfulness and kindness shown to us. We would also like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Autumn’s Promise Assisted Living, NEW Curative Rehabilitation and the staff at Unity Hospice for taking exceptional care of Jed.
In honor of Jed, a gathering of family and friends will be held on September 14th at Royal Scot Golf Course, starting at 12 PM, with a time for attendees to share memories or words about Jed at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a direct donation in memory of Jed to the Wisconsin State Parks, DNR Endangered Resources Fund, Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, or a local youth golf program of your choice.
