Jerry (Gerald) Denton

April 18, 1941 — March 18, 2024

Jerry (Gerald) Wayne Denton, age 82, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2024 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay surrounded by the amazing love and comforting arms of our Lord after a brief illness. He was born on April 18, 1941 to the late Marie and William Denton

Jerry grew up in Hopkins County Kentucky and was raised by his mother Marie and stepfather Garnet Moore. He spent time in many different locations, but his heart belonged to Kentucky. Growing up, Jerry found a love for many things, but ultimately his passions grew in driving semi, logging and working at his family’s sawmill. Jerry married Inez Louise Eden in 1959 in Madisonville, KY, where they had nine children. He later met Betty Posvic (he called her Elizabeth) at a truck stop café while driving semi. On May 17, 1980, in a small town in Illinois, they were married and together they had 2 children. In 1988 they moved to Betty’s hometown of Mishicot, WI, and worked at Eck Foundry, where he was known as Hillbilly, until his retirement.

Jerry was as stubborn as they come, but he did have many passions. While it wasn’t always evident, his greatest pride was his children! And he held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. He enjoyed logging and driving semi for work, and while he wouldn’t admit it, he did enjoy the foundry, if only for the people and the heat. Jerry was probably best known for his many stories. If there was a story to tell, Jerry would tell it. He also enjoyed fishing and logging and the outdoors just to be in the sun. He enjoyed reading so many western books, or tinkering with small engines, and having morning coffee with friends. He also enjoyed cooking and eating, but he often got tired of chewing.

Survivors include his wife Betty, 6 daughters; Sherry Vaughn (Eddie Gollaway), Valinda Hawks, Lynn (Al) Gravely, Peggy Jo Denton, Michelle (Charles: Pudgy) Corso all of Galax VA, Betty Jo Denton (Jason Sand) of Mishicot WI. 5 sons: Wayne (Debbie) Denton, Bill (Sharon) Denton, Tony Denton (Amy Liddle), Lee (Cindy) Denton all of Galax VA, Christopher Denton (Amber Engeldinger) of Mishicot WI.
27 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He is further survived by 2 brothers and 2 sisters; Garnet (Nancy) Moore, Wes Moore, Carol Moore, Patty Simpson all of Kentucky, and 1 sister in law Phyllis Moore of Kentucky. 6 brothers in law; Martin Posvic, Dave (Sue) Posvic, John Posvic, Mark Posvic, Mike Posvic, Jeff Posvic, Clarence Klein, 8 sisters in law; Diane (Danny) Loeh, Nancy Klein, Sandy (Todd) Jaeger, Debbie (Mike) Jaeger, Sharon Posvic (Mark Funk), Tammy Schmidt, Julie (Danny) Valenta. So many nieces and nephews and friend. He is also survived by a very special neighbor and friend Steve and Sioux.
He was preceded in death by his father William Denton, his mother and stepfather, Marie and Garnet Moore; father and mother-in-law, Vincent and Elaine Posvic, 1 brother, Kenneth Moore, 1 sister, Ramona Denton, 3 brothers-in-law, Dennis Klein, Vincent Posvic Jr, Willy Simpson. 2 sisters-in-law, Lori Posvic, Kathy Klein.
