Joan Ida Hudziak, age 78, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2015. Roger and her family were by her side at their home in Two Creeks, WI. She was a 30 year survivor of breast cancer because she was a fighter. Joan was diagnosed only one month ago with stage four Lung Cancer and had only begun to fight. Unfortunately, it had gone to her brain and she was taken from us much too soon. She was the wonderful, generous, considerate and yes, hilarious Joan we all knew and loved until the end. She did it HER WAY and her only concern was that Roger and her family take care of each other and be happy.
Joan told many stories and laughed about the wonderful times she had with her family and friends. She was always meeting up with friends and family while traveling cross country in their RV. She loved her trips to Maui and only a few months ago took a cruise through Scandinavia to visit family in Denmark. It was a long time dream of hers to go back to see her Danish relatives. She even gathered all of her strength just a few weeks ago to attend her annual scrapbooking camp. She would not have missed it. She loved all of the girls and she loved creating memories.
She will be greatly missed by everyone. She was the BEST Mom, Soul Mate, Sister, Sister-in-law, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Friend that anyone could ever have.
She is survived by her children, Mike, Lonnie (Don), Randy (Connie), Lori (Jeff), Suzie (Jeff), her dog Paco, her 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, Roger and his children, Mike, Mark (Jeanie), Marsh (Aleta), Mimi (Tom) and his 3 grandchildren and her siblings Poul (Linda), Grete (Gerry) and Margaret. She was preceded in death by her parents Reiner and Gerda and big brother Fleming.
It was her wish to be cremated and a bench has been placed at the Two Creeks Park on Lakeshore Road. As usual, she said her door is always open, so come and sit awhile because she is always listening.
Joan wanted her family and friends to have time to grieve in private and at a later time have a “CELEBRATION OF LIFE” Party in her honor. (And what Joan wants, Joan gets!) This party will take place sometime in late spring.
We hope that all of you will be able to “celebrate” her life with us at that time. In the meantime, let us all raise our glasses and give A VERY LOUD “SKAL” to Joan.
*In lieu of flowers, Joan would appreciate donations to: Museum of Danish America, 2212 Washington Street, Elk Horn, Iowa 51531.
