Joseph J. (Bud) DuBois, 86, formerly of Green Bay, WI passed away on February 6, 2018 at Unity Hospice with his wife, Rose at his side.
Joe was born in Green Bay, WI on November 12, 1931, to Joseph and Clara DuBois. He grew up on Doty Street and was part of the Doty Street Gang, remaining friends throughout their lives. He graduated from Central Catholic in 1949. After high school, he served in the United States Army, playing football in Germany as an All-Europe linebacker. He, then, played for a semi-pro football team, the Manitowoc Chiefs. On August 6, 1955, Joe married the love of his life, Rosemary Gonnering. Joe’s main career was being a husband & father and loving his family unconditionally. He was also a Sanitation Engineer for the City of Green Bay for 30 years.
“Rugged” Joe, his nickname from high school basketball was known for many things, but most of all his love of the Packers. He became an original season ticket holder when Lambeau Field opened in 1957. There were very few days that went by when Joe wouldn’t be decked out in Packer apparel. He was an exceptional Sheepshead and Cribbage player with savvy card playing skills. Joe was quite an athlete, playing basketball, football, and softball. When talking with dad’s softball buddies, they would always say he was a “helluva” 3rd baseman. Singing, dancing, traveling, and camping with his family were other pastimes Joe enjoyed. Joe’s big character and “phraseologies” are much to be remembered. Dad/Grandpa-you’re the greatest!
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Gonnering DuBois and children Laurie (Robert) Klarkowski, Joseph (Janice Baeten) DuBois, Karen Nelson, Jon (Christine Joly) DuBois, Michelle (Paul) Neumeyer, Michael (Karie Strand) DuBois, and Paul (Tami Christensen) DuBois; Grandkids Jody (Chris) Stangler, Joshua (Samantha) DuBois, Joe DuBois, Daniel Nelson, Matt (Dawn) DuBois, Kassie (Joel) Clement, Justin (Jessica Henry) DuBois, Kristyn (Alex) McNeill, Paige Neumeyer, Libby Neumeyer, Jenee’ Klarkowski, Kyle Klarkowski, Tyler Klarkowski, Ryan (Becca) Campbell, Katie Campbell, Elisa Campbell, Sarah Charles, Ashley Joly, Lainey Botz, Brady Awe and 17 great grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Bernadette (Norbert) Francois, Glenn (Edna) DuBois, Elaine Bozsa, Audrey (Gordon) Smits, Lois (Rodney) Lonzo, Delores (Norbert) Lochman.
The funeral will be held at St. John’s the Evangelist, 413 St. John Street, Green Bay, WI 54301 with the visitation from 10:00-12:00, the mass is at noon on February 12, 2018.
The family would like to thank Unity Hospice for their compassionate care. Please bring your memories to the celebration.
In lieu of other forms of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established in Joe’s name.
Joe’s final wish was to watch the Super Bowl and to spend his final days with his family in Green Bay. He made the long journey home with his wife by his side to do both……and more, much more than this…..HE DID IT HIS WAY!!!
