Although she struggled with health issues in recent years and fought hard to have more time with her family, Julie Anne Quiroz (née Ullrich) of Iron Mountain, Mich. left us peacefully on August 7, 2024. She was 66 years old.
Born in Wauwatosa, Wisc. in 1957 and growing up in the Chicago suburbs of both Wood Dale, Ill. and Barrington, Ill., Julie was the eldest child of Eugene F. Ullrich, Jr. and Aileen D. Ullrich (née Hughes). She was a fun-loving daughter who enjoyed school, was good with numbers, and showed a love for reading at an early age.
Professionally, Julie developed a strong work ethic and used her proficiency with numbers to grow a career in the mortgage industry, working at a real estate business in the northwest suburbs. She took great pride and pleasure in her ability to help clients secure mortgages and fulfill their dreams of home ownership.
In search of a simpler life for her young children away from the urban sprawl, Julie left the Chicago area in 2001, moving to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where she continued her work in the mortgage industry at Superior Title in Iron Mountain. Later, she would move on to Ranger City Distributors where she worked as a Credit Manager.
But far more important to Julie than any career success was her focus to be successful in her role as a mother. She adored her four children; Brian, Kathryn, Caroline, and Aileen; raising them to be smart, hard-working, strong-minded adults with kind hearts. And she reveled in the joy of being a grandmother to Justin, Zachary, and young Owen. Family was Julie’s world.
Julie’s early love for reading would become a lifelong passion, consuming books even up to a couple of days before her passing. Her great sense of humor and quick wit made for lively dinner conversations. Julie was also a lover of pets including dogs, cats, and parakeets, as well as all forms of wildlife.
Julie’s children write: “The legacy our mother leaves behind is one of boundless love for her family. While we already miss her so much, the greatest gift she leaves us is the gift of having each other. We are so grateful mom, and we love you always.”
Julie was preceded in death by her parents Eugene F. Ullrich, Jr. and Aileen D. Ullrich (née Hughes). She is survived by her loving children Brian Samborski, Kathryn Goad, and their father Raymond Samborski; Caroline Quiroz, Aileen Quiroz and their father Andy Quiroz; grandchildren Justin Samborski, Zachary Samborski, and Owen Quiroz; brother Eugene G. Ullrich and sister-in-law Moira Fahey-Ullrich.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
