Kate Wheeler

September 15, 1947 — October 18, 2016

Kathryn “Kate” J. Wheeler, of Green Bay passed away peacefully Tuesday October 18, 2016 surrounded by her family. The loving care and support of her daughter-in-law Kimberley and her daughter Jennifer made her final months at home possible and peaceful.

Kate was born on September 15, 1947 and grew up in Green Bay. She graduated St. Joseph Academy in 1965 and attended U.W. Oshkosh. A young wife and loving mother, Kate wore many hats throughout her life, working as an antique appraiser, vintage clothier, and paralegal.

Kate was an intelligent woman who was well read with a love for books and history, an appreciation for musicals and an eye for antiques. She is remembered for her generosity and uncanny ability to find the “perfect gift” for the special people in her life. Kate took great pride in her home and had a chic and eclectic sense of décor.

Despite many personal struggles, Kate endured with a fantastic sense of humor and “cockeyed” optimism.

Her niece Michelle wrote these words: “ My fabulous Aunt Kate has long been my hero…..a bright, courageous, immensely amusing woman. I will always remember her sassy wit and heart overflowing with love.”

The immense friendship and love of her partner Rick Burgeon filled Kate’s life with laughter and comfort for the last 24 years.

She is survived by her three children, James (Kim) Wheeler, Jennifer (Tim) Trupke, and Elizabeth (Jim) Bonner; her sister, Judith DeGroot; brother-in-law, Michael DeGroot; eight "perfect" grandchildren and four nieces Kate is further survived by her best friends, including Jenny, Stacie, Mickey, and Amy, and her soul mate Rick.

Kate is preceded in death by her parents George and Jane Larscheid, and her second husband Robert Eppright.

Kate’s family extends a special thank you to Lizzie Witters. Also, special thanks to AseraCare Hospice for their compassionate care.

At Kate’s request, all family and friends are welcome to gather at her beautiful home to celebrate her life on Sunday, October 23, from 11AM until 2 PM.
