Kent Robert Crain, 63, of Green Bay, passed away on April 5, 2025, at Aurora BayCare Medical Center following a brief illness.
Kent was born on September 13, 1961, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Carla (Parbs) Erdmann and Robert Crain. He spent his early childhood in Milwaukee before moving with his family to Marshfield, later settling in Green Bay. Raised primarily by his mother, Kent deeply admired Carla for her strength, resilience, and unwavering love. He also shared a special bond with his stepfather, David Erdmann, whose love and support left a lasting impact on him. Kent often recalled a cherished moment when, at age 15, David introduced him to a friend by saying, “This is my boy.”
Kent attended Green Bay public schools—Chappell Elementary, Franklin Junior High, and Green Bay West High School (Class of 1979)—where he was active in chorus, musicals, football (albeit as a 4th stringer!), and first discovered his passion for history and social studies, inspired by his teacher, Dan Baker.
After high school, Kent studied Graphic Communications at NWTC, and spent much of his early career in sales, living and working in Green Bay, Chicago, and Florida. In 1991, following the passing of his stepfather, Kent returned to Green Bay and pursued a degree in History and Social Studies with a minor in German at UW-Green Bay. He later studied History in graduate school at Western Michigan University. Though life’s path led him back to sales and management, Kent brought his passion for learning and connection into every role he held.
Kent’s final position was at DHP, Inc., where he worked in sales and eventually managed a government program. He was especially grateful for the support and camaraderie of his colleague, Crystal Kudick, and the integrity and kindness of DHP owners Nick and Dale Roberts.
Kent was a man of many interests and passions. He enjoyed live music, was a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers, and had a lifelong love of model railroading—particularly HO-gauge trains—and fondly remembered the Green Bay & Western Railroad. His fascination with aviation led him to attend the EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh annually since 1976, including completing an internship with their historical archives.
A true history buff, Kent was active in the Brown County Historical Society and served as a managing editor for Voyageur magazine—his dream job. He also ran the popular Facebook page Photos & Memories of Old Green Bay. Kent loved fishing, a hobby he first shared with his stepfather and later with his good friend, Pat. He was an enthusiastic “Christmas junkie,” even donning the Santa suit to bring joy to children. Christmas, both in spirit and in preparing meals for others, was his favorite time of year.
A voracious reader and gifted storyteller, Kent had an encyclopedic knowledge of film and television trivia, jazz music, WWII history, Americana, and family lore. More than anything, Kent valued relationships. Whether across the miles or through career changes, he prioritized staying connected with those he cared about.
Kent was preceded in death by his stepfather, David Erdmann, and father, Robert Crain.
He is survived by his beloved mother, Carla Erdmann; aunt and uncle Rick (Sue) Erdmann; Brad (Linda) Erdmann; cousin Libby (Martin) Kramer and their children Paulina and Marlena. He is also lovingly remembered by his chosen family of dear friends: Joanne Wirtz and Patrick Boex, Rick Christnot, and Tom Behrendt.
Near the end of his life, Kent said, “I am very thankful for the people God put in my life… the laughter and love they have all shared with me.” He had complete confidence in what was to come next, believing that all would be glorious and good—and that he would see us all again.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Aurora BayCare and Green Bay Rehabilitation Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion during Kent’s final months. In true Kent fashion, he took the time to get to know those who cared for him, brightening their days with his humor, wit, and warmth.
