Mario De Leon 71, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, passed peacefully on August 15, 2024. Mario had a long battle with heart failure and was surrounded by loved ones in his final moments. Mario was a good-natured and caring man. Mario could make friends anywhere he went and was always up for good conversation. He was friendly and caring to everyone he met and always stood up for others when needed. Mario was born in San Diego, California on October 16, 1952, to Parents Cornelio De Leon and Florence Potts. He finished his high school degree while serving in the US Coast Guard when he was 17 years old. He was married to Gina Wilde, who he once told years before their wedding day, that he would marry her one day; his dream came true. They were divorced but maintained a beautiful friendship for their children and stayed friends even after all the children were grown, spending holidays, birthdays, and special events together.
Mario served in the US Coast Guard at USCDC Mesquite earning a National Defence Service Medal and also completing Coast Guard Correspondence Course SN-4, small arms and firefighting training. After his service in the US Coast Guard, he moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin, where he found happiness and peace. He was employed at Georgia Pacific while also raising three children and stepchild who he loved and considered his own. His favorite time of the year was Salmon season, where he and his children annually went fly fishing together. He was able to teach and include many, making endless friendships along the way.
Mario will be remembered and loved by many, especially his beloved granddaughters Isabella Martinez De Leon and Evanna Martinez De Leon. The family would like to thank Belin Hospital staff and the VA Staff for helping and caring for Mario on this long journey.
Mario did not want any funeral services but instead wanted a cookout for a celebration of life. He did not want anyone to mourn or be sad but instead celebrate the memories that were spent together.
