Merrill “Pete” J. Peters, 82, Maplewood, died peacefully at a local hospital on October 31, 2014. Born on March 20, 1932, in Oconto Falls, he is the son of the late Harvey and Marjorie (Hillis) Peters. Pete was in the United States Navy from 1950-1955, serving a mission in Korea. He proudly worked for the US Weather Bureau in the Arctic and Antarctic, in his honor a mountain was named after him - Peters Peak in the Holyoak Range in Antarctica. Pete was also a mechanic for much of his life in the trucking industry, and was a member of the Teamsters Union.
Pete is survived by three sons, Dave Peters, Oconto, Mike Peters, Green Bay, and Jim Peters, Little Suamico; and his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Virginia and Kathleen; and two brothers, Norman and Harvey, Jr.
