Long-time Denmark resident “Fiddlin” Nancy Jean Johnson, 62, peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones on June 14, 2015.
Born August 6th, 1952, Nancy packed a lot of life in her almost 63 years. Always up for a challenge even at a young age, Nancy taught herself how to play the fiddle upside down and backwards as a young child, a talent that would serve her well in her later career as the talented and spirited front woman of her band. She graduated a year early from Green Bay West High and had a successful administrative career. When she met and fell in love with her husband, she chose to be a stay-at-home mom for her two daughters. Never one to sit still for long, raising two kids didn’t stop her from fronting the incredibly popular country and western band, Nancy Jean and the Whiskey River Bandits. The band was well known and played locally and across the state at popular country music festivals.
