Paul Curtis DeCaster, 63, of Ashwaubenon passed away unexpectedly on June 7, 2019. He was born in 1956 to Hobart and Doris (Johnson) DeCaster in Green Bay, WI. After graduating from Ashwaubenon High School, Paul attended the University of Wisconsin Green Bay for his bachelor’s degree and University of Wisconsin Madison for his MBA. In 1980, Paul married his wife of 39 years, Kathy (Kosina). They had a beautiful life together, first in Wausau, WI and North Augusta, SC before settling in Ashwaubenon, WI where they raised their daughters for 30 years - Annie (b. 1986), Kelly (b. 1988), and Claire (b. 1991).
Paul spent his working years at Paper Converting as a marketing manager before starting his own recruiting business. Kathy and the girls are so thankful he was able to work from home and be completely present throughout their childhoods. He was always there to shoot hoops in the driveway, take the girls swimming at VFW, or attend their sporting and school events. Paul was a strong and loving father, and the girls will cherish every memory they have with him.
Paul’s wife Kathy always felt loved by his hard work, service to her and others, and how he prioritized his family above all. He was a dependable and respected husband who sacrificed everything to make sure they were provided for.
Paul truly devoted his entire life to the service of others. His greatest joy was to set aside his own needs to help others with theirs. Whether he was moving one of the girls in college, cutting down a friend’s tree, or snow blowing the neighbor’s driveway, he was there for everyone. For the past 15 years, Paul devoted every day to caring for his mom, who he now precedes in death. He went above and beyond to ensure that his mom had everything she needed to continue living in the home she loved.
Paul was the most selfless, fun-loving guy who could always make you laugh. He was a loyal friend to so many and all who knew him loved him. He so enjoyed spending time with the neighbors on Wren Lane where he was referred to as “the heart of the neighborhood” and his Planet Fitness buddies that became like family over the years. If you knew Paul well you knew that he loved starting big bonfires, spending time at the beach in Naples, Florida, listening to oldies, and enjoying a “splash” out on the patio listening to the Brewers.
Paul is survived by his loving wife Kathy, daughters Annie (Scott) Hubers, Kelly (Peter) Mueller, and Claire (Joshua) Drevs; his granddaughter Jilly, who he adored; his brothers Doug (Susan) DeCaster and Steve (Darice) DeCaster; his sisters Kay Dobbs and Janet DeCaster; his sisters-in-law Vicki (Steve) Gore and Leslie (Tom) Merritt; and his nieces and nephews Jennifer (Matt), Erica, Ethan, Steven, Henry, Hannah, Melanie, Julia, Logan, Liz, Erin (Riley), Tommy (Angela), Melissa, and Mara.
Paul was preceded in death by his devoted father Hobart “Bob” DeCaster, parents-in-law Charles and Dolores Kosina, brother-in-law Jeff Dobbs, sister-in-law Lauri Kosina, Aunt Annette Johnson and close friend Becky Helgren.
A memorial visitation to celebrate Paul’s life will take place on Monday, June 17th at First United Methodist Church (501 Howe Street, Green Bay) from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. with a short service starting at 6:00 p.m.
