Peter Byron Loken of Green Bay, Wisconsin, passed away on February 26, 2024, at the age of 81.
Peter was born on September 19, 1942, to Byron and Betty (Cameron) Loken in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1960. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire in 1965 and went on to earn his Master’s Degree in education from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in 1970.
On August 1, 1970, Peter married Ruth Hartzell and together they welcomed their two beloved children, Michael and Sara. They made their home in Green Bay where Pete impacted many students’ lives as an educator and guidance counselor for the Green Bay School District, spending most of his years at Edison Middle School.
Pete enjoyed visiting with friends and family, telling stories, watching westerns and World War II documentaries, and of course, baseball. But most of all he loved anything regarding his children and grandson and was so proud of all of their accomplishments. He was an avid card player who loved cribbage, sheepshead, 500, poker, and bridge. His weekly card games at Happy Joe’s were a true highlight. Pete was a Master level bridge player and he looked forward to tournaments where he could play and meet up with friends. Pete had the biggest heart and would do anything to help someone, whether family, friend, or stranger. His donations to numerous charities and causes touched many.
Pete is survived by his son, Michael (Elizabeth) Loken of Stillwater, MN; daughter, Sara Loken, of Green Bay, WI; grandson Samuel Loken of Stillwater, MN; brothers Richard Loken of Green Bay, WI and Mark (Deb) Loken of Eau Claire, WI; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Peter is preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Betty Loken; brother Thomas Loken; sister-in-law Roberta Loken, maternal and paternal grandparents; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and his feline companion Sophie.
A special thank you to the Bristol Hospice team for their care and support of Peter over the last six months. Another special thank you to all his wonderful lifelong friends including the Andersons, Doles, and Winskes.
In accordance with his wishes, a private celebration of life will be held on a future date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice.
Blessed be the memory of Peter Byron Loken.
