Peter Nelson

February 24, 1966 — June 23, 2024

On the afternoon of Sunday, June 23, 2024, Peter David Nelson, 58, of Green Bay, WI, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family. Pete was born in Ypsilanti, MI on February 24, 1966, to David Nelson and Susan Morton (Reno). He grew up moving between California and Michigan where he graduated from Menominee Highschool (MI) in 1984. He attended Northern Michigan University and UW - Eau Claire for Business. He planted roots in Green Bay, WI in the early 1990's where he raised three sons, Zach, Cody, and Casey, and was married to Jennifer Bass (Hallam) for 20 years. After the nest was empty, Pete found comfort with Holly Nelson (Smith) whom he had been married to for 4 years. They enjoyed a short stay in Arizona to escape the bitter cold of Wisconsin where they eventually returned to be with family more.

Pete was truly a jack of all trades. He could fix anything, pick up a new sport and be good at it, and sell you a glass of water. He always knew how to put a smile on your face, tell you a story for the fifth time, and pull a joke out of nowhere. Out of all the great things he could do, he was best at being a loving father and grandfather. He truly enjoyed raising his sons where he taught them right from wrong, how to do awesome things (like build a ramp for your bikes), and how to pick each other up when they fall. He worked hard in the flooring industry to support his family and eventually became a territory sales manager. When he wasn't working or supporting his boys in sporting events, he loved to spend time with friends golfing, hunting, and riding his Harley.

He was a father figure to the children of Holly as well as being a role model to many others. He was a grandfather to 12 grandchildren and a beloved friend to many. He left a lasting impression on every person he met. One of his favorite books was the Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz and he tried to live by them. 1. Be impeccable with your Word, 2. Don't take anything personally, 3. Don't make assumptions, 4. Always do your best. He left this world too soon and will be truly missed.

Pete is survived by his father, David Nelson and Mary Perfitt-Nelson; his stepfather Michael Morton; his Uncle, Bobby and Betsy Johnson; his Aunt Jane and Ken Leeson; his siblings, Adam Nelson, Alex Greenwood, Betina Nelson, Ian Perfitt, and Maddie Perfitt; his children and their wives, Zach and Kiana Hallam (Lacombe), Cody and Hailey Hallam (Conboy), Casey and Maddie Nelson (Basken); his grandchildren, Ayden, Peyton, Viviana, Maya, Nash, and Emmett; his cousins, Eric, Jess, Emily, and Rachael; his step children, Marie, Crystal, Justin, Jordan, and Jessica, and their children.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Susan Morton (Reno) and stepfather Gerry Vander Putten.

A special thanks to the ICU staff at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay who tirelessly took care of him so he could spend his final moments with his beloved family.

His celebration of life will be at Preble Park (471 Skyline Blvd, Green Bay, WI 54302) on August 3rd, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
