Richard J. Schmelzer

Richard James Schmelzer, 81 of Green Bay, WI, passed away on December 23, 2024, at Bellin Hospital after a long courageous battle with cancer, with his children by his side. After graduation from Algoma High School, Richard joined the Air Force where he learned many skills leading to a career as a diesel mechanic. He also enjoyed his career as an Owner/Operator over the road truck driver. In retirement, Richard enjoyed fishing and woodworking until the loss of his eyesight took his joy from him.

Richard enjoyed spending free time with his grandchildren who he was incredibly proud of and loved very much.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Lisa Schmelzer, Green Bay; his son, Eric Schmelzer, Ridgefield, WA; and his beloved grandchildren, Alex Peters and his daughter, Harper; Andie Vandehei (Brian Vandehei); Hunter Schmelzer (Hunter and Bri Kallin).

The family would like to thank his friends at Woodfield Village for always keeping an eye on him and his case workers and nurses at Lakeland Care and Almost Family for making it possible for Richard to maintain his independence of living at home.

Richard was loved and will be greatly missed by his family.
