Rick Thomas Vander Wielen

Rick Thomas Vander Wielen, 56, of Freedom, WI passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023, after a valiant
battle with cancer.

He was born October 12, 1966, to Francis and Christine Vander Wielen of Menasha, where he grew up.
Rick and his kids made great memories on their trips up north and visiting Slippery Rock at Chute Pond.
Rick met his wife, Kristine, later in life but together they built a fun life. They enjoyed exploring the state
going camping and riding their e-bikes. Rick had a love for automobiles, especially his Saab’s. He loved
tinkering on them and taking their convertible out for rides. Rick was a one-of-a-kind guy who would
make everyone laugh. No matter where he went, he would make friends with anyone he met.

He is survived by his loving wife Kristine, his children Thomas (Stacia) Vander Wielen, Susan Vander
Wielen, stepchildren Ryan (Cierra) Smith, Josh Smith, Jessica Smith (Bryan Soles), and his grandchildren
Riley, Oliver, Sky, Kira, Remy, and Zoey. Rick was preceded in death by his father Frank, mother Chris, and
brother Mark.
A special thank you goes to his Aunt Sondra Koshuta Baseman for all her help with the family during
Rick’s journey.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be planned for a later date. More details will be announced by the family
closer to the event.
