Royce Clark Squier, 93, died Tuesday, March 28, 2017. He was born January 25, 1924 to the late John and Althea (Clark) Squier in Grover, Wis. After graduating from Marinette High School, he joined the United States Coast Guard and served from 1942 through 1945, taking part in many World War II beach landings. After retiring from GE in Choschocton, Ohio, he returned to the Marinette area. He worked at Emerson Electric and then retired from Kargard, Industry (Silvan Industry). Royce met Susan Brabender and they were married on February 19, 1977. Royce enjoyed a well manicured yard and garden and was always in competition with his neighbor, Peggy, as to who had the most beautiful flowers. Royce always won. He enjoyed woodworking---making beautiful crucifixes and birdhouses, etc. Many a vacation was taken with his wife, Susan and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Connie and Stan, traveling to Jamaica, the Bahamas, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and most of the United States, and was an ardent Cubs and Packer fan. He and his son, Scott, went to Arizona many times for Cubs spring training. Royce was a long-standing member of First United Methodist Church in Marinette as worshiper, usher, choir member and volunteering on numerous committees. Royce was a member of the American Legion Post #146.
Royce is survived by his wife of 40 years, Susan; sons: Scott (Emily) Squier, Marinette, Donald (Janine) Squier, Wausaukee, Richard (Marge) Squier, Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter, Susan (Mike) McCrite, Payson, Ariz.; and son-in-law, Frank Sabowski III; two grandsons: Mike (Kelli) Sabowski, Frank Sabowski IV (Thia Johnson), two granddaughters: Courtney and Katie Shobert and one great-grandson. Royce is further survived by sisters-in-law: Barbara Seefeldt, Connie (Stan) Ostrenga, Marlene Fellner; and brother-in-law, Al (Anne) Brabender; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Rachelle Sabowski; his brothers: Keith and Gene; and one sister, Grace. Let’s not forget his cats: Cherokee and Tonto.
Memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 813 Owena Street, Marinette with Pastor Kevin Dembrinski officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2017. Inurnment will be at Glenwood Memorial Gardens, Marinette, with full military honors. Simply Cremation, Green Bay, WI is serving the family.
