Shirley Calkins

January 8, 1935 — June 30, 2024

Shirley Elaine Calkins, 89, of Hortonville, WI went to be with her Lord, with her family by her side on June 30, 2024. Shirley was born in Whittcomb, WI on January 8, 1935, to the parents of Mason and Laura Buck. She married the love of her life, William Calkins on October 29, 1955. She was employed by Mercy Medical Center for over 30 years until her retirement. Shirley was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, always putting others before herself. Shirley enjoyed gardening (pulling weeds), playing cards, sewing, baking, and cooking, her potato salad being one of the family favorites. 

Shirley is survived by her five children Cindy (Tom) Paffenroth, Christy Calkins, Carla (John) Frank, Craig Calkins, Nancy (Rick) Bark, ten grandchildren, Laura (Tony) Biehn, Cassandra Daughtery, Caitlin Calkins, Anna Bark, Eisa Frank, Amy (Josh Kent), Ashley (Adam) Carlson, Adam (Courtney) Bark, Megahn (Chris) Colburn, Matt (Krista) Paffenroth and 18 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Shirley brought immeasurable joy into our lives with her kind and giving heart. She will be missed, but not forgotten.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents and twelve siblings. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at First United Methodist Church, 700 W. Linwood Avenue, Oshkosh, WI. The Reverend Ellen Rasmussen will be officiating. The visitation will be held 10:00am-11:00am, service at 11:00am. A luncheon will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
