Stanley Arthur Matyshak

October 6, 1936 — May 6, 2024

Algoma, WI

Stanley Arthur Matyshak Jr died peacefully at home May 6, 2024, at the age of 87.

He was an only child born in St. Louis, MO October 6, 1936.  He grew up in California.  Stanley graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Loyola University in CA , received his Master’s Degree at St. Louis University in MO and briefly attended UCLA.  He moved to De Pere, WI and started teaching English at St Norbert College in 1963.  He came to the Midwest to find a “real” girl to marry. Stan Matyshak and Sally Mc Gee married on June 6, 1964. He retired after more than 40 years of teaching and enjoyed his retirement in Algoma, WI where they moved in 1988.

Stanley loved sports and played basketball into his 70’s.  He was the dad that played football and wiffle ball in the front yard with all the neighborhood kids. He watched all kinds of sports and often went to his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. For a very quiet man he was very vocal while watching and playing his sports.  He also collected die cast sports cars; his collection numbered well over 100.  One of his favorite past times was playing pool on his personal pool table often with his dog, Sadie, running circles around the table until she lost steam.  Being an English Professor, he wrote all the time. While publishing some stories he never did publish his “Great American Novel”.

He survived his father Stanley Arthur Matyshak Sr, mother Alice Jackson Matyshak Wills, and step father Harold Wills

Stanley was a wonderful husband and father. He is survived by his “Real” wife Sally Jean (Mc Gee) Matyshak, 5 children Stephen (Gay) Pliska-Matyshak , Katherine (Wayne Carter) Matyshak-Carter, Christian Matyshak, Anne Mueller, and Michael (Tiffany) Matyshak and 10 grandchildren Dana Mueller, Tess Kramer, Gretchen Mueller, Robert  Kramer, Devon Matyshak, Dylan Matyshak, Meaghan Matyshak, Kaylan Matyshak, Aaron Matyshak, and Liberty Matyshak.

We would like to give a special thank you to Unity Hospice for their wonderful care.

There will be a family get together which will be announced in the future.
