Vernon Lemke

November 13, 1945 — June 8, 2024

Vernon Russell Lemke, age 78 of De Pere, Wisconsin, moved on Saturday, June, 8th surrounded by his family.

Vernon was born to Roy (Lois ) and Beatrice (Everett) Atwood in Marinette, WI on November 13, 1945. He attended Menominee High School and graduated in 1964. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp serving during the Vietnam era. Upon returning from his service, he felt very lucky to have met the love of his life Dianne (Kuehnau) whom he married on October 19th, 1968. Together they had four children, and seven grandchildren.

Vernon was passionate about his family and his “Shack” up north in the UP of Michigan.

Vernon was loyal to his friends, for which he kept a tight circle. He shared secret handshakes, off color jokes, one liners, Friday fish fries, golf, the Bowling Stones, and so many other stories. He was an excellent dancer and whenever there was a good tune on, he could be seen pulling Dianne to the dance floor. In 2011, he retired from the State of Wisconsin as an Occupational Safety Inspector. One of his most notable contributions while working for the state was his work at Miller Park, after the crane accident.

Vernon is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dianne (Kuehnau) Lemke, children Liane (Brian) Wondrash, Tracy (Michael) Cavin, Jason (Jill) Lemke, grandchildren, Erika, Jon, Scott, Matthew, Dianna, Emma, and Devin, siblings Sherry (Al) Steffen, Sandy (John) Leisner, Mike (Kathy) Lemke.

Vernon was preceded in death by his son Jerrod Lemke, sister Bobbi, parents Roy (Lois) Lemke and Beatrice (Everett) Atwood; and some of his dear buddies.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date.

Vernon wanted his final words to be: “Semper Fidelus to my family and friends. I’ll be waiting for you. Till then, always remember, I love you all.”
